Levers –  there are three types of levers. Mtb levers. Road levers and TT levers. TT levers are very specific to aerobars designed for TT bikes, the levers are designed to be at the end of the aero bar and are operated with your thumbs. The brake levers are further down on the drops. If you need to brake then you need to switch position to do so. MTB levers are located at the front of the handlebars by the handlebar grips and are operated with one or two fingers. The gear levers are usually below the grips underneath and are operated by your thumbs.

Road levers are located on the side of the handlebars, the whole had is used to pull the brakes and the same lever is either pushed or clicked over to change the gears. If you have a electric road set up then a button is pressed on the side of the lever to change gear. The shape and materials can also vary and this is a choice dependant on style, budget and performance.
