Pedals

Pedals for bikes come in a huge variety of styles, functions and clip in systems. Riders choose their pedals based on the discipline they are taking part in and also the clip in system in which they choose or prefer. To name a few are Speedplay, Shimano and look systems. Mountain bike riders and some road riders use SPD pedals which are a little stronger and heavier and give you the ability to clip in from both sides. Downhill and freeride riders will vary in their pedal preference and there is a combination of flat pedal usage which means you are not clipped in and your foot is free at all times. The flat of the pedal are usually fitted with very small spikes or bolts to help secure the foot onto the pedal when riding over rough ground. Some riders will choose to be clipped in. Leisure riders and young children may also want to use flat pedals, these can be bought without spikes to suit the leisure rider.
