Tandem bikes are bikes that can accommodate two people in front and behind each other. They have two sets of cranksets, two handle bars and two saddles. The rider at the front can steer, change gear and brake, the rider at the rear of the tandem bike helps to power the bike forwards. As there are two riders on the bike it means that you can technically product a higher mph average than if you were on your own. A tandem bike takes practice to become confident and feels very different from a solo bike. Tandem bikes are used a lot in touring as it is a sociable and easier way to get around.
