Back in 1965, Pietro Santini took over a knitwear factory from his sisters and turned it into a factory that specialised in the production of clothing for cyclists. In the early days, the first products were informed and inspired by Pietro’s own passion for cycling. As the company expanded, however, Pietro made a conscious decision to look for designers who were passionate about sports, particularly cycling, running and triathlons, so that they could combine technical expertise with a real feeling for what these athletes needed and wanted. He also kept in touch with cyclists and teams from his own days as an amateur cycle racer and continued to develop a network of contacts in the cycling world, so that he could get ideas and feedback from the current generation of pro racers and keen enthusiasts.
Over the years, the Santini brand has creatively balanced respect for tradition and heritage with the recognition that research and technological advancement were the pillars upon which its success was built. Hence, on the one hand, Santini is still based in its original home of Bergamo, Italy and continues to make its products by hand, staying true to the artisanal values that are the distinguishing characteristic of many of Italy’s world-famous clothing brands, while on the other hand it has invested significantly in cutting-edge research and development so that their products are capable of meeting and exceeding the expectations of the most demanding riders who depend on them.
Of course, Santini is still an Italian brand and as such it aims to create clothes that make cyclists look good as well as feeling great. For all its technical expertise, it still incorporates that famous Italian sense of style.
